[Radio One cuts Boston's award winning Caribbean Music Program over 20 years on the Radio ] WILD AM1090 is now 97.7 fm and it was the first commercial station to play Caribbean music if not in the USA. It as certainly the first in New England Region. WILD the only heritage Black radio station in the region continues to play mainly crossover Soca, Reggae, Dancehall and Calypso during its regular programing but no longer on Sundays. For over two decades Jamming Joe Johnson from Trinidad hosted the show is called “The Caribbean Cruise” which features all types of Caribbean music and information from the Islands.Joe Johnson took over the show from Elroy R.C. Smith who is now the Program Director for WGCI in Chicago. The Caribbean Cruise was the source for new and the latest Caribbean music and it was a Boston institution. Jammin joe also featured some African, Cape Verdian, Zouk and Spanish musi on the Sunday afternoon program.Jamming Joe is now the host of the Time Tunnel Block Party on WILD 97.7 FM which feature 70s, 80s, and 90s, dance music .
